This season, Longchamp’s La Pliage shifts register in two new iterations, One and Xtra, each treating colour as structure rather than decoration. La Pliage One, in 70% recycled nylon with a monochrome skin from canvas to clasp, reduces the icon to a single, saturated note; La Pliage Xtra stretches the silhouette into a lean East–West line in supple leather.

For this issue of TANK, these bags move into the orbit of Kazimir Malevich’s late figurative works, where blocks of pigment anchor bodies and choreograph space. In these images, the bags behave like planes in a painting: cut-outs of colour that hold the composition in place and insist on their own geometry.

Longchamp’s recent B-Corp certification underpins this formal clarity, reminding us that a “simple” nylon tote is now backed by a much more complex audit of social, environmental and governance practices. The recycled canvas is just one visible layer of an industrial model being held to account – from repair workshops to climate targets – even as La Pliage continues to slip, almost weightlessly, into daily life. .
